We managed to catch Dr. Pitts, between treating patients and hitting the gym, for a brief Q&A.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working in Grand Cayman?

A: The staff are amazing! Plus, my wife and I usually bring friends or family down with us to hang out and relax after work on Seven Mile Beach.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant on island?

A: I would have to say, Sunshine Grill. Great food, and a relaxed casual atmosphere.

Q: Having written Nutrition 2.0, is there a nutritional philosophy that particularly resonates with you?

A: The basis of any good nutritional plan should always be: eat more whole vegetables and fruits, and less of everything else. Incorporate whole grains and legumes in moderation. Try to eat less meat, and make sure what meat you are eating is grass fed organic or wild-caught fish. Minimize processed foods and added sugar. Choose to eat foods closest to their natural state.

Q: What does your typical day look like, working at the Centeno-Schultz Clinic in Colorado?

A: It is busy! From 7:30am to 5pm I am seeing patients. My day is a mixture of new patient consultations, follow-up appointments, and procedures. I also help train physicians in the fellowship program, so I am teaching a lot during my day. Between patients, I’m catching up on emails, research, and charting. With such a busy case load I often only see the other doctors in passing. But if we do have a question about a case it is great knowing we have the best doctors around us for support.

Q: Doctors often mention a cyclical flow of injury occurrence. One week they will encounter five shoulder injuries of the same type all in a row. Is there an area of injury or type of injury you are encountering a lot lately?

A: I’ve been seeing a lot of neck and upper spine issues lately.

Q: In your spare time, what activities do you do to relax?

A: I spend time with my wife and our new baby. I love being active. I work out, snowboard, run, hike, bike, and do yoga. In my downtime, I watch movies, read, and like to travel.
